In the last few years the use of light sources has become more and more refined and the light project has become fundamental in architecture and design. At the same time, the need of companies, public and private corporations and professional studios for skilled professionals of light, able to design and measure the illumination of spaces and buildings has increased.

This course aims at moulding skilled professionals, that are able to control and manipulate light, and work in the research, design and marketing fields in connection with the Italian business system of companies producing lighting devices. The Master envisage the development of three projects held by visiting professors and realized in collaboration with companies that will follow the students in every step of the work process: the brief presentation, the periodical reviews, the final presentation.

Great importance will be given to the acquisition of an historical-critical knowledge of light design during theorical lessons, with particular reference to projects that marked light-design history.

In this field will be analized light philosophy, the relation between light and literature, solar cults and the importance of light in shows and pyrotechnics.

The Master offer a contribution in the learning of lighting technique, design and calculation of light in inner and outer spaces, optical simulations and calculations and the realization of lighting devices.

Course will be given in English and for some parts in Italian with English translation

Number of Student enrolments may not exceed 20 students

A Toshiba laptop will be given to Master students without additional expenses. The laptop has every software that will be used during the course to develop the project. At the end of the Master the computer will be exclusive property of the student.

• Graduates from similar fields, those with diplomas from university-level schools, OR professionals with at least two years experience in the sector will be eligible for enrolment upon this Master course.
• Upon application the candidate must present his/her curriculum vitae (CV) and design portfolio.
• Selection will be based on these criteria and only after the careful assessment by the school board or course co-ordinator.
• A one-to-one or telephone interview will also be held in English.
