Course Duration: 2 years This programme is designed for students who want to take up the challenge of developing innovative methods to improve the state of the environment and of finding sustainable solutions to the threats facing it. The programme aims to provide insight into the socio-economic causes, the characteristics and consequences of pollution and degradation of the natural environment. It intends to generate technology as well as socio political and economic instruments to control and prevent environmental problems in an interdisciplinary way. The programme provides students with advanced scientific training that emphasises the development of: The programme is thesis-oriented and is built around an individual research project. Compulsory elements are kept at a minimum; this enables the programme to be tailored to the wishes and needs of the individual student. The study adviser and thesis supervisor assist the student in selecting the most relevant courses from those offered by the University. A total of eight different disciplines offer various options for thesis research (based on the student’s choice of major) within this programme. These disciplines relate to the fields of: Graduates of this programme are well equipped to continue their scientific training (PhD programme) or to start or continue a professional career that requires independent scientific performance.
